Augusta State’s student publication, The Bell Ringer, won a record-breaking 13 awards at the Georgia College Press Association (GCPA) conference held recently in Athens.
“The student reporters and editors at The Bell Ringer are a hard-working bunch who really care about good journalism. These awards are solid validation of their efforts and a reminder that commitment to their readers, dedication to their craft, and quality work all pay off,” said Matthew Bosisio, Bell Ringer advisor and associate professor in ASU’s Department of Communications and Professional Writing.
ASU students received awards for their articles and photography. David Lee placed first and John-Michael Garner placed second in the Best Sports Story category; Rita Dejnak was awarded third place for Best Photograph-Editorial/Feature; Shawna Freeman came in third place for Best Entertainment Story; and Tiffannie Meador, placed second, and Jillian Hobday, third place in the Best News Article-Objective category.
The Bell Ringer also won second place for General Photography; Best Campus Community Service-Sports; and Best Campus Community Service-News, as well as third place for General Advertising, Layout and Design, Best Campus Community Service-Editorial, and General Excellence.
GCPA is an organization dedicated to assisting in the betterment of Georgia collegiate journalism and to providing a reciprocal flow of information between its member colleges.
