CAHS Dean’s Seminar Series continues Feb. 21

Dr. George Howard, Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Public Health, will speak on geographic and racial disparities in stroke at the next CAHS Dean’s Seminar Series Tuesday, Feb. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 1222 of the Health Sciences Building. Dr. Howard has extensive experience in biostatistics, data management and the direction of coordinating centers of multicenter studies. He serves as principal investigator of the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke study and co-principal investigator in the Southeastern Consortium on Racial Differences in Stroke. He has served as principal investigator of the Coordinating Center for the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study, the Autoimmune Ear Disease Study, the Prospective Randomized Evaluation of the Vascular Effects of Norvasc Trial and the statistical analysis center for the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Stenting Trial, in addition to co-investigator in numerous epidemiological studies and clinical trials.

Dr. Howard has published extensively on the analysis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risk factors. His focus is on the development and application of statistical techniques in large multicenter clinical trials and epidemiological studies.

He received his training in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
